International Conference on Biodiversity and Arachnids.
Invertebrates and the Basque Environmental Steategy for Sustainable Development.

7/8/9 november 2003

PRESENTATION
------------------------

The loss of biodiversity on the planet threatens the survival of the human population. In order to define conservation strategies, research areas are based on the list of living beings associated with different ecosystems and geographical regions, the effect of human activities on these and the monitoring of their evolution, both as regards diversity and specific composition, within the heart of the habitat in which they exist. Due to their diversity and abundance, their ease of capture and the advanced level of knowledge currently available in Europe, arachnids are excellent technological indicators for the aforementioned research areas. This Conference aims to serve as a platform for specialists in this field to exchange knowledge and experiences with the objective of designing an arachnid diversity cataloguing, monitoring and conservation programme in order to fulfil the commitments and onjetives established in the Basque Environmental Strategy for Sustainable Development (2002-2020).
