The ringers of the T.R.S. have captured in Ataun (Gipuzkoa) the second exemplar of Dipper (Cinclus Cinclus) without the usual white bib typical of the specie. The above bird was captured in April of last year in the Leizaran river, a tributary of Oria, in its passage through the town of Leitza (Navarra) and this other one has been captured in the Agauntza river as it passes through the town of Ataun (Gipuzkoa).

Which was captured last year was female and she had incubatriz plate and after discussing with the British expert Stephen Ormerod, coauthor of the book "The Dippers", he stated that it may mean a example melanin but this one appears that is adult male (Wing T9 98mm and very brown) by presenting biometric measurements.

As the second capture such short distance and time, gives us to think. Now we must be alert, if we see any other issue with these characters.

It is known that many species of birds are totally dependent for their survival, the environment of our rivers and that when they bring a lot to affect their reproduction, restoration of bridges and drainage of the rivers that are so fashionable now.

Therefore, as part of the campaign monitoring bird populations in rivers of Gipuzkoa we're doing, last year settled in Otito Bridge (bridge of witches) in the town of Andoain on its way through the river Leitzaran, an undetermined number of nesting boxes at different heights.

And also following suit in Andoain aqueduct bridge, also in the course of the river Leitzaran being restored at present, to continue this way nesting as they have done so far these birds are totally dependent on resources the river and its environment, such as the dipper (Cinclus Cinclus) and Wagtail (Motacilla cinerea), among others.
Following the campaign, part of the project "Monitoring bird populations in rivers of Gipuzkoa", Jose Ignacio Jauregui recaptured in the Amezketa river a dipper (Cinclus cinclus) that on June 2, 2009 was ringed in the nest as chicken along with other two chickens in the Albistur river, district of Olarrain (Tolosa).
This bird, after being fed by their parents, down to the mouth of the Oria river, in the river Oria rises to the town of Alegia (5 kms. approx.) entering the Amazketa river, where he was recaptured on May 10 2010 in its second year of life.
The bird was seen in state Encubatriz plate 3, which means it is female and that is breeding in their new home (Amezketa river), despite being an extremely territorial species, it has already found around a section of river free to settle.
On thursday april 22th at 19:30 h., in Villafranca de Navarra. will be the presentation of the monograph "Arizaga, J., Alonso, D., Fernández, E., Fernández, I., Martín, D., Vilches, A., 2009. Wetland of Badina de Escudera (Navarre): characteristics of the community of passeriform birds.
We just got the record about the Kingfisher (Alcedo atthis) which recaptured in Andoain on 08/10/2008 one ringer of Txingudi Ringing Station in a brook with no more than 2 m.
This is a guy who was ringed in Trunvel as a chicken (Finisterre France) at 550 km. and 27 days before being recaptured. It is the first event of its kind and could be shown that the dispersion can have martins.
This sunday March 14th saw the 4th control of a guipuzcoan Cantabric Yellow-legged Seagull in the Mediterranean. In particular it is a bird ringed in San Sebastian in June 2009, and controlled in the province of Gerona by Carlos Alvarez. So far, it is reported only 5 controls on the Mediterranean coast of birds of the subspecies lusitanius: 2 Gipuzkoa controlled inValencia in January 2007 and 2009, also another guipuzcoan in Girona in 2008 and one galician seagull observed in Malaga in 2 years consecutive 2007 and 2008.
These controls show that, though low, there is a Cantabrian birds flow towards the Mediterranean. Although not known for sure the routes taken by these birds in their movements, it is possible that while the bird Galician Atlantic coast have followed southward Guipuzcoa birds have traveled along the Ebro river routes and / or the Garonne, accompanying the seagulls from Mediterranean in their migration to their breeding grounds.
Training course to understand the scientific ringing as an invaluable tool to complement studies on the avifauna.
Aimed at those who want to become banders and do not have minimum knowledge on identification of birds that can use without difficulty, specific tools for bander.
The course will consist of a talk, which will provide the necessary knowledge and techniques ringing and leaving the field to gain the necessary experience in handling birds as well as the installation of various trapping methods.
On September 18th an exemplar of this species marked with colour rings in Camarga was observed in Plaiaundi Ecological Park (Irun). The exemplar was ringed as chick on June 26th, 2009.
According to the investigator responsible of the project only 7 chicks wew ringed in the current year, so the observation of this exemplar in Plaiaundi could be considered very improbable. The reason for this low number of ringings is that chicks they ring are those born in tree-nestes. Chicks born in the reed-bed, where 90% of the population of Camarga breed, are not ringed.
The Great egret population has multiplied last years in the zone. In 2006 20 nesting couples were counted while in this season (2009) approximately 120 had been counted.
On September 13th was made the 100th ringing with colour rings for this species. This campaign, framed in the "Monitoring of bird populations of the rivers of Gipuzkoa", began on February 2008 using metal rings only. On December of the same year, colour rings were incorporated to the study.
Up to date 168 exemplars were ringed during campaign, 66 with metal ring only and 102 with both metal and colour ring. 108 exemplars were recaptured.
Most samplings included in this project are made in Oria river basin, although basins of rivers Urumea, Bidasoa and Oiartzun are being sampled too.
